Dr. Goldstein Provides Charitable Eye Care

Every year, Dr. Goldstein is approached by local organizations, asking if he will assist in providing charitable eye care to patients who cannot afford insurance. Over the years, Dr. Goldstein has provided free or reduced-fee eye care, including examinations, surgery, and has even worked with local hospitals and surgery centers to provide their services under the same terms. Dr. Goldstein is a member of the local Lion's Club, and with their assistance, has provided free or low cost eye care to many patients in need. Here is an example of one such situation:

The Story of Michael B

"Doctor, I can't see, so I can't work!"

Mr. B felt that he was really between a rock and a hard place. He had been diagnosed with cataracts, but he simply could NOT afford to pay for his surgery, and was unable to work. With no health insurance, his life was falling apart due to these circumstances.

Enter the Lions Club

Mr. B approached the Lion's Club of Sterling Heights, whose mission statement is: "To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs"

It All Comes Together

Mr. B's surgery was performed in 2009. Dr. Goldstein helped arrange a reduced fee for the use of the surgery center and its staff, and also donated his time and skills. The return to functional vision was almost immediate! Within 2 months, Mr. B had found work again.
