Preparing for LASIK Surgery By William Goldstein on July 03, 2015

What to Do before LASIK?

Before you undergo LASIK in Detroit, you must find out as much as possible about the surgery. Here are a few steps you must take before you undergo LASIK. Stop wearing contact lenses for a few days before the surgery – If you wear contact lenses, you will have to stop wearing them at least for a few weeks before undergoing LASIK (you can switch to glasses). This is important because contact lenses distort the shape of the cornea. If the doctor takes measurements of your eyes in such a situation, they won’t be accurate. Performing the surgery on the basis of these faulty measurements will lead to poor outcomes. If you wear contact lenses and want to go undergo LASIK, please speak to Dr. Goldstein for the specifics.

Don’t wear makeup the day before and on the day of the surgery – Do not wear any makeup, lotions, skin creams or perfumes before the surgery (one day before and on the day of the surgery). Your doctor may also ask you to clean their eyelashes for a few days before the surgery, ostensibly to prevent eye infections.

Have someone to take your home – Keep somebody on standby to take you home after the surgery. You are not going to be in a position to drive yourself because you will still be feeling the effects of the surgery. It is risky to drive in this condition. You may also be asked to bring a driver for your first post operative appointment (the next day). You might be surprised to know how may people don’t make these arrangement. Please note that side effects like blurry vision, redness in the eye and urge to scratch the area around the eye are common after LASIK surgery and they will correct themselves within the first few days.

Be aware of the cost of the surgery – LASIK surgery is elective surgery which means your health insurance company is not going to pay for it. So you will have to make arrangements for the operation out of your pocket. If you want to know the cost, you can get in touch with Dr. Goldstein at his LASIK Detroit center.

Dr. Goldstein is a highly experienced LASIK surgeon, who has performed thousands of LASIK surgeries. He will do his utmost to ensure that you get the vision you want. For more details on LASIK eye surgery in Detroit, please call Dr. Goldstein at at 586-323-2020.
