Understanding LASIK Cost
LASIK cost to patients is a common topic of conversation, and one that is the subject of many television, radio and news paper ads. Bloggers blog about it, and articles on other websites focus closely on the cost of LASIK. Tweets, Facebook posts and ads, are full of discussions of LASIK cost. The issue is not a new one, and yet it is still controversial. There is a need to openly discuss the differences in charges for LASIK between surgeons. It is very important for patients to understand why these differences exist. Without knowing why the price of LASIK is different, patients are missing a big element of choosing their surgeon.
You Get What You Pay For!
There is one simple way to understand why the price of lasik is so different. “You get what you pay for”. Very often, the lowest price surgeon is not really offering the best that a patient deserves. And it is worth paying more for the best.
Cutting Cost….and Quality!
An excellent example of this is in the equipment that is used for LASIK eye surgery. The newer lasers and the newest instruments are more precise. They are also safer than the first generation lasers and tools. So a surgeon may cut costs by not upgrading to the best equipment. This allows them to offer the surgery at a lower cost to their patients.
Who Does The Actual Care?
Another way for a surgeon to cut LASIK cost is to allow others to do the work. Many of the budget LASIK centers will have staff do exams and followup for their patients. The surgeon is only involved in the actual surgery, and often meets their patients the day of surgery. Patients may never see the surgeon before or after surgery! There may also be hidden costs to surgery that are charged later. Other surgeons charge extra for astigmatism correction, which should really be included in the original fee!
